Memory Walk For Alzheimer’s

Published by J Scott under health news

This is something very close to me as my great grandfather had Alzheimer’s. I remember this one time when I saw him and sat in his chair and had a vacant look in his face. He didn’t talk to me and when I was growing up I always loved going to his house and this was pretty hard. I also had a job a long time ago that I made security for patients with Alzheimer’s that lived in the nursing home so they would not wander and hurt themselves. It is sad… I could never imagine personally living through memory lapses and forgetfulness of people who love me.

We still don’t know much about Alzheimer’s of course we know more than we did 10 years ago but to research and to raise awareness takes funding. There is something we can do raise awareness and raise funds all of the same time; participate in the Memory Walk. It is much like the Relay for Life- get a team and get those sponsors. Hey not only would be spending some quality time with some great people but you’ll help to raise money by enjoying a nice walk.

For all those nearby the State College there is good news. A memory walk will be held at the Boalsburg Military Museum on October 20, 2007. Wouldn’t it be great if you were a Team Captain ? Maybe you could organize a bunch of your pals, family and or co-workers and enjoy a 4 mile walk. The memory walk is a nationwide event so if Team Captain is something that you interested in sign up early.

For more information about Memory Walk please visit Alzheimer’s Association . I really think we should really contribute to this cause because Alzheimer’s has touched or will touch many people. Who knows maybe in 20 years time we would know even more about this disease, perhaps prevent or at least treat it. Wouldn’t that be a great thing!
